7th Annual Forest Forum

January 12th, 2017

The 7th annual Raymond James Forest Forum offered a concise program designed to shed light on the key issues impacting Housing, Timber & Building Materials stocks along with opportunities for interaction with company executives.

Fundamentals vs. Uncertainty - Aggressive strategic capital programs have left the Forest Products industry with record productivity and low conversion costs. This plus tight commodity markets have combined to produce quarters characterized strong free cash flow, net debt reduction and increasingly, cash returned to shareholders. Despite solid fundamentals, stocks have generally under-performed as uncertainties about the US market access (lumber) and capacity growth/oversupply (OSB/timber) interrupt fund flows.

The 3 hour forum was designed to address these concerns with the following presenters:

  • US Housing Market Outlook & Top Housing Stock Ideas - Buck Horne, Housing & REITs Analyst, Raymond James & Associates
  • US Non-Residential Housing Outlook - David Fell, Research Leader, FPInnovations
  • Perspectives on the CAN/US Softwood Lumber Dispute - Susan Yurkovich, President, Council of Forest Industries (COFI)
  • OSB Supply/Demand Fundamentals - Greg Lewis, Vice President Wood Panels, Forest Economic Advisors
  • Solid Wood Outlook Panel
    • Mark McHugh, CFO, Rayonier
    • Kip Fotheringham, Director Sales & Marketing, Hampton Affiliates
    • Chris McIver, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, West Fraser Timber

A company management and institutional clients casual dinner reception kicked off the event on January 11th, 2017.
