Sam Yau
Sam Yau, CFP®, FMA, CIM®, FCSI Senior Wealth Advisor

With over 25 years in the financial services industry, and over 20 years in advising clients on how to reach their retirement and other financial goals, Sam has been the main point of contact and advice for all of his clients’ financial questions and needs. He specializes in helping his clients reach their financial goals and dreams by preparing a well-defined financial plan, and drafting an investment portfolio that fits his clients’ risk tolerance and objectives.

Born in Hong Kong, Sam moved to Canada with his mother when he was 12 years old. Having the perspective of where he came from, and the values he learned early on from his single mother, Sam recognized that if people make smart and tough choices with their money throughout their lives, they can have financial security and a comfortable retirement. This is why Sam is always very candid with his clients about financial freedom and how to achieve it, and why he decided that helping people manage their wealth would be his passion.

Sam is a graduate from the University of Alberta and received a Bachelor degree with honours. He also earned and holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, as well as the Financial Management Advisor (FMA), Canadian Investment Manager (CIM), and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designations. He is currently working on earning his Associate Portfolio Manager designation and plans to be a portfolio manager in the near future.

Sam’s philosophy is simple. Treat clients the way he would like to be treated. The quality of service Sam and his team provide reflects the quality of service he would expect for himself. He is committed to building a solid, lasting relationship with his clients. Keeping clients informed and educated is a top priority for him. This means providing access to a wealth of educational materials, promptly returning phone calls, and quickly following up on administrative issues. It also involves monitoring accounts on an ongoing basis to take advantage of opportunities as they arise, and changing market conditions. He regularly reviews goals, strategy, and portfolio performance with his clients.

Sam is fluent in Cantonese and has 2 adult children. He and his wife’s favourite activities are golfing, skiing, and hiking. He also enjoys spending time and vacationing with his family and friends.
