Advice From A Dog

Hello all, my name is Beau.

I am turning 13 years old this week. Please, please hold your applause. Yes, that makes me 91 in your human years. So being a distinguished elder and all, I wanted to in part some wisdom onto you.

1.    BE PART OF THE PACK

What is a dog without a pack? A lone wolf. And a lone wolf doesn’t get belly rubs.
Dogs know that you can take down bigger prey with more numbers. A pack looks out for each other. Because the idea that we are all in this together, outweighs the notion that you are on your own. Work as a team and success will come.

2.    SNIFF AROUND

The world is meant to be explored! Each day brings with it new sights and smells. Yes, you may have walked this path before, but who knows what is around the next bend. Take your time, soak it all in. Roll in the flowers if you must. You will find many wonders if you are open to them.

3.    HOWL AT THE MOON

Be vocal and speak your truth. Throw your head back with pride and send out your call to the world. Be specific about what you want. State your intentions clearly. When a dog barks it sets off a chain of more barking passing the message along. Words said with passion are amplified.

4.    BURY YOUR BONES

Take a long term approach. Assets take time to mature. So do relationships, skills, and interests. These things take time. Bury what is important to you in a safe place and let it sit there. Don’t forget the spot. When the snow melts your nose and instincts will lead you back there. Each year you will slowly add to your stash until one day you’ll have a mighty fine collection.

5.    HAVE A DOG’S LIFE

Sometimes all that’s needed to cure your aliments is an afternoon nap. Don’t rush through life and work too hard. Burn out can bring with it emotional and physical distress. This is not a justification to neglect your responsibilities, but more an excuse to take it slow. Lazy dog days are eh okay. Enjoy yourself. You only live once, unless you’re a cat.

When you sniff as many trees as I do, you learn a thing or two about life. I may be colour blind, but I see the wonder each day brings. I hope you learned the way of the dog here today. Or at least had a chuckle along the way.

Unfortunately, there are no mini-Beau’s running around. But what I could not share with my pups, I have passed onto you.

Have a great weekend everyone. Paw shakes all around.
