Shawn Dunbar

Shawn has always had a keen interest in money, even from a very young age. Growing up he had various side hustles: woodworking “loonie banks”, mowing lawns, charging his sister ten cents per lap to watch his train go around the track, and if it was Shawn’s birthday, everyone in the family knew to hide money in his cake. His future was destined to involve a career in finance.

Born and raised in Nanaimo, Shawn worked his way through school as a roofer and graduated in 2002 from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. Following graduation, he worked as a Marine Engineer on a bulk carrier for one year and used the experience as an opportunity to see the world. When he returned home, he got a job in the back office at an established investment firm in Vancouver. Following a move to Victoria in 2004, Shawn became licensed and joined Raymond James. He has been with the company ever since, developing strong relationships and helping his clients reach their financial goals.

Shawn is a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) as well as a licensed Portfolio Manager. He is also licensed to trade options. He enjoys researching companies and isn’t afraid to dig into financial statements to find the ones where he sees the most value.

He met his wife Alex at Raymond James in 2011, and they have two young children. A devoted family man, Shawn can often be found at the ice rink for early morning hockey practices, coaching soccer or driving to dance classes. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling and playing various sports including hockey, tennis and skiing. Shawn is grateful to enjoy living on Vancouver Island and tries to give back to the community that has provided many opportunities for him wherever possible.
