LJ Eiben, CFP®, CIM® Financial Advisor

Growing up, I bounced around a lot. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio – but by the time I was 12, my family had moved nine times. The last move was a big one – from Long Island, New York to Vancouver, British Columbia.

That was the first time I saw how tough of a financial move going from the US to Canada can be.

My mom and dad were essentially fired by their financial advisor – and told to transfer or liquidate their IRA - because the firm wasn’t registered to work with Canadian residents. It caught them off guard – with little time to make a decision.

Thankfully it was just a bump in the road – one that continues to motivate me to help people in the same situation today.

I haven’t always been a finance guy – I returned to the US after high school to play college football – then went on to play professionally in the Canadian football league for the Toronto Argonauts.

That career was cut short by an injury – which turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me – because it kicked off my career in finance – and allowed me to build one of the leading cross-border financial practices in Canada.

When I’m not working – I love spending time with my family. I have three boys, so our weekends are usually spent on the field. Be it football or baseball – it’s where I love to be.

One of my biggest passions is the Challengers baseball team, for children with special needs. As a father of a child with down syndrome, it’s an organization that’s near and dear to my heart.

I’ve learned a lot from sports over the years. No matter your race or gender, sports breaks down barriers, and unites people in a common objective.

I’m here to do the same for you from a financial perspective.
