01.11.23 – Recent Read: Hyper Focus

I love being a portfolio manager because the constant learning enriches me as a person. I usually read a new book every two weeks. I’d like to share my thoughts on my most recent read.

Hyper Focus How To Manage Your Attention In A World Of Distraction

Hyper Focus: How to Manage Your Attention in a World of Distraction

We are living in the age of distractions, with social media, electronic devices, and the constant need to have quick responses to questions. There is no time to think and reflect. We become stressed and tired. People are busier than ever, but being busy and being productive are two different things. In fact, they often exclude each other.

Our brain has two very powerful modes of thinking: hyper focus and scatter focus. Hyper focus is a linear thinking. It helps us to focus on the details and tasks, as well as being very productive. Scatter focus helps us to see the big pictures and connect the ideas, along with helping us be creative. It allows us to think outside the box, and sometimes, with no box at all.

I’m applying hyper focus to analyze the details of my investments, such as studying their financial information.

With scatter focus, I see the investments in relation to the world, the market place, and technology innovations.

Often I find that investors only focus on one and not the other. As a result, they have very narrow views of their investments. In doing so, they are exposed to greater risks.

Every thought is a dream, rushing by in a stream. Bringing life to our kingdom of doing.

Fantasy – Earth, Wind, and Fire

This is one of my favourite songs. Every idea can have a great impact in life. Every idea being put into action can change the world.

This is why I love learning new ideas to build a better tomorrow.
