Tom Plunkett Headshot
Tom Plunkett, CIM® Portfolio Manager

Tom is a passionate problem solver, and is committed to providing clients with a smart approach to investing. Tom practices a solutions-based, rather than a product-based, investment strategy. Tom bases his solutions on financial planning and forecasting of a client’s future outlook. Clients can visualize where they are going with Tom’s guidance. Then, financial innovations are brought to bear: from globally-diversified ETFs to tax-efficient strategies. Investing solutions continue to evolve, and many of them mean that clients can invest in more prudent and less costly ways than were available even 5 years ago.

Prior to becoming a Portfolio Manager, and an investment advisor in 1997, Tom was a financial analyst in the corporate planning department at one of Canada’s largest petroleum companies. There he honed his skills in the application of financial modelling, decision optimization among alternative investments, and risk management techniques. He still practices these skills for the benefit of his clients.

Tom earned his MBA at Dalhousie University, and earned his BA at Bucknell University. He holds the CIM (Chartered Investment Manager) designation and is a member of RIA (Responsible Investment Association).

Tom currently volunteers for Enviros and for the Elbow Park Residents Association. His energy is increasingly freeing up as his two sons consume less and less parenting time.

With his wife Sarah, Tom spends his leisure time in the mountains and at the family cabin on Prince Edward Island.

The Chartered Investment Manager® (CIM®) Designation builds the skills and experience we need to serve a more sophisticated financial client or institution. Financial professionals who hold the CIM® designation are eligible for registration as a Portfolio Manager in Canada. They have expertise in providing money management services to high-net-worth and institutional clients, and they understand the application of portfolio management in the context of Canadian markets and regulatory requirements

What do these designations mean for you? They mean that when you work with an investment consultant who has taken the time to complete these designations, you’re working with someone who is well-versed in modern concepts of investment advice, is educated enough to understand how your individual investments are being managed and how they work together – no matter how complex it may be. These skills, along with a commitment to advanced education, enable them to provide you with the kind of service that you not only want, but deserve.
