The Fort Langley SunDragons women’s dragon boat team which was formed in April 2007. They are a group of energetic, adventurous women who love paddling on the Fraser River all year round. Thriving on competition and team camaraderie and recognizing the importance of rigorous training. And oh yes – they do love the bling rewards from a successful regatta!
The SunDragons practice Tuesday and Thursday mornings from April thru September and Tuesday mornings from October thru March. The team competes at Rec Level A, against hundreds of paddlers from all over BC, and Washington and Oregon State. Each season they compete in 4 or 5 regattas of which 1 to 2 may be out-of-town events.
2017 Season Re-Cap:
SunDragons entered six regattas last season. At the Women's Regatta in False Creek we placed 2nd in the 2nd highest division (7th out of 33 teams). We then raced at the Concord Pacific Regatta, also in False Creek (one of the largest regattas in the world) and placed 7th in the Recreational A Division. Harrison was our next regatta in July where we placed 1st in the Women's Division A Championship. We then headed to Victoria where we placed a very respectable 1st in the Platinum B Final (2nd highest category). We ended the season in Steveston, placing 3rd overall in the top Women's Division, with an incredible 'photo finish' against two competitive teams. All in all, another strong season! Plus - we had fun!
We're still paddling through the winter and are looking strong going into next season.
