Adam Skillen
Adam Skillen, CIM®, CFA Agent, Portfolio Manager

Adam Skillen is the lead Portfolio Manager at Skillen Investment Management of Raymond James Ltd., and he is passionate about helping investors reach their financial goals. In Southwestern Ontario there are investors of all different shapes and sizes, and Adam has assembled a team with diverse skills and experiences to meet the unique needs of every type of client. Twenty years in this business have taught Adam that a disciplined approach to investment management offers investors the greatest chance at long-term success. Trying to aggressively time the market or pursuing the latest investment fads are not a part of Adam’s methodology. Speaking with clients regularly, understanding their unique goals, building and monitoring portfolios that attempt to achieve those goals, and doing it all without taking unnecessary risks is the Skillen Investment Management way.

After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Economics at Western University, Adam completed his Master’s degree in Financial Economics at the University of Toronto. He then came to live and work in Exeter for Gary Bean Securities, the predecessor of Skillen Investment Management. While working Adam achieved the Canadian Investment Manager designation, became a licensed Portfolio Manager, passed his Branch Manager’s courses, and most importantly, achieved the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Adam grew up on a dairy farm near Wingham, Ontario, and has been working and living in Exeter since 2000. Now the lead at Skillen Investment Management, Adam is charged with creating an environment where both his clients and staff can achieve the success they desire. In his spare time Adam enjoys playing golf, being an amateur triathlete, and spending time with his wife Rachel and his son Ethan.

The Chartered Investment Manager® (CIM®) Designation builds the skills and experience we need to serve a more sophisticated financial client or institution. Financial professionals who hold the CIM® designation are eligible for registration as a Portfolio Manager in Canada. They have expertise in providing money management services to high-net-worth and institutional clients, and they understand the application of portfolio management in the context of Canadian markets and regulatory requirements

What do these designations mean for you? They mean that when you work with an investment consultant who has taken the time to complete these designations, you’re working with someone who is well-versed in modern concepts of investment advice, is educated enough to understand how your individual investments are being managed and how they work together – no matter how complex it may be. These skills, along with a commitment to advanced education, enable them to provide you with the kind of service that you not only want, but deserve.

No credential is as widely regarded in the global financial industry for its rigorous focus on current investment knowledge, analytical skill, and ethical standards as the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. A charterholder not only has the technical knowledge to make investment decisions but also adopts and is held to the highest ethical standards. A comprehensive, global view and up-to-date practical skills give these investment professionals the tools and deep understanding necessary to effectively analyze the risks and rewards of a variety of investment types, enabling them to address a client’s specific investment needs.
