On August 27, 2016, seven riders representing Team Raymond James set out on a two-day, 260-km charity bike ride from Vancouver to Seattle for Ride to Conquer Cancer 2016. This marks the sixth year of participation for the team. As of August 30, they've successfully fundraised a whopping $50,723 (and counting), which brings their running team total to more than $350,000 since their first year of participation in 2011. Congratulations to the riders for another successful campaign!

Huge credit goes to Jay Dowhaniuk for his monster effort in raising more than $20,000 and achieving "Ambassador" status. Jay lost his business partner and family friend Paul Johnson to pancreatic cancer in early 2016, so this Ride to Conquer Cancer carried extra weight for him. This video by Global News tells Jay's fundraising story.
"This year's Ride to Conquer Cancer was truly amazing for me on a number of levels," said Jay. "I'm doing everything that I can to support the BC Cancer Foundation in the fight against cancer so that one day cancer will be a thing of the past, and showing my support for those who have been affected by cancer. Together, Team Raymond James can make a difference!"
A special thanks also goes to the Raymond James Canada Foundation for its funding support.
The Arts Council of the Central Okanagan (ARTSCO) supports and strengthens the arts throughout the Central Okanagan by championing artistic excellence, accessibility, communication, awareness, and mutual support of the arts within the broader community. The Okanagan Arts Awards were created in 2007 by the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan to celebrate artistic and creative excellence and achievement of artists, in all disciplines, in our region. By publicly acknowledging the work of these individuals and organizations, the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan places excellence in artistic practice, in all its forms, front and center as an integral part of our vibrant community (artsco.ca).
The 9th Annual Okanagan Arts Awards will take place on the evening of May 28th at the Habitat, in downtown Kelowna.
